The Ras Al Khaimah Police have officially announced a further reduction in the speed limit on Sheikh Mohammed bin Salem Street (E11), one of the emirate’s busiest roads. Effective immediately, the speed limit between Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Roundabout (Al Refaa) and Al Marjan Island Roundabout has been reduced from 80 km/h to 60 km/h, with a maximum allowed speed of 80 km/h, including the standard buffer.
The announcement was made on July 22, 2025, through RAK Police’s official social media platforms and other government communication channels.
This marks the second speed adjustment on this stretch of the E11 road in 2025. Until December 2024, the road maintained a speed limit of 100 km/h (with a maximum of 120 km/h). On January 17, 2025, the limit was first brought down to 80 km/h (with a max of 100 km/h). The most recent reduction to 60 km/h reflects the ongoing infrastructure upgrades and road development works in the area.
Reason for the Speed Limit Reduction
According to Ras Al Khaimah Police, the decision comes as part of a broader traffic safety and infrastructure enhancement initiative. Major roadworks are currently underway along this segment of Sheikh Mohammed bin Salem Street, and the reduced speed limit is intended to protect both motorists and workers on-site.
“We inform drivers that the speed limit on Sheikh Mohammed bin Salem Street (E11) has been reduced,” stated RAK Police via their official announcement.
Motorists Urged to Comply
Drivers are urged to stay updated with the latest road safety rules and follow the newly implemented speed limits strictly. Violations of the reduced speed limits will result in radar monitoring and possible fines, as per UAE traffic laws.
Authorities have also encouraged motorists to plan their travel routes accordingly and exercise extra caution while navigating this stretch.
RAK Police continue to emphasize that such traffic measures are vital to minimizing accidents and ensuring smoother traffic flow during periods of active construction.
