Dubai, UAE – February 25, 2025: The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has officially announced a reduction in working hours for private sector employees during the Holy Month of Ramadan. In line with the UAE’s labor laws and efforts to support employees’ well-being during this sacred period, working hours will be reduced by two hours per day.
The Ministry stated, “In accordance with the requirements and nature of their work, companies may apply flexible or remote work patterns within the limits of the daily working hours during Ramadan.” This provision allows businesses to adapt to operational needs while ensuring compliance with the labor law adjustments.
Impact on Businesses and Employees
The reduction in working hours aims to support employees in observing Ramadan rituals while balancing work responsibilities. Businesses, particularly in customer service, hospitality, and retail sectors, may experience a shift in operational hours to accommodate shorter workdays. Many companies are expected to implement flexible or remote work arrangements where feasible, ensuring productivity remains stable.
From an employee perspective, the change is a welcome relief, allowing for better work-life balance during the month of fasting. “This initiative helps us manage our energy levels throughout the day and focus on our spiritual practices without compromising our professional duties,” said Ayesha Khan, an employee at a Dubai-based marketing firm.
Adjustments Across Various Sectors
Industries that rely on continuous operations, such as healthcare, logistics, and emergency services, may introduce shift-based scheduling to maintain efficiency. Employers are encouraged to communicate any changes clearly to employees and clients to ensure a seamless transition during Ramadan.
