The UAE government has announced an official public holiday on June 15, 2026, in observance of the Hijri New Year (Islamic New Year) 1448 AH.
According to the announcement issued by the relevant authorities, the holiday will apply to employees working in federal government entities as well as the private sector across the UAE.
The Hijri New Year marks the beginning of a new Islamic lunar calendar year and commemorates the migration (Hijrah) of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) from Makkah to Madinah, a significant event in Islamic history.
Residents and employees across the country can look forward to a day off to celebrate the occasion with family and friends. Government departments and many private companies are expected to remain closed during the holiday, with normal operations resuming afterward.
The Hijri New Year is one of the official public holidays observed annually in the UAE, reflecting the country’s cultural and religious heritage.
